Taiwanese firm Aaeon, a provider of edge AI products, is working with Qualcomm to accelerate the adoption of embedded IoT technology across vertical markets such as medical, industrial automation and transportation.

The collaboration leverages Aaeon’s manufacturing and early access capabilities to deliver market-ready products tailored for specialised industry needs using Qualcomm’s platforms.

Through this collaboration, Aaeon has outlined its intentions to use Qualcomm Dragonwing processors for products that facilitate the deployment of applications across the medical, industrial automation and transportation sectors for its key customer base.

Aaeon says its expertise in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing and its commitment to providing tailored services to its customers positions the company to address the requirements of such high-level industries.

The initial phase of the collaboration encompasses three key initiatives:

  • The development of uCom Smarc modules and AI edge computing platforms, scheduled to launch in Q3 2025, based on the Dragonwing QCS6490 processor.
  • Integration of the Dragonwing IQ9 series into Aaeon’s Pico and HPC single board computers for robust industrial use, available in Q4 2025.
  • Providing ready-to-use engineering support for key accounts to enable early access to future Qualcomm technology, which helps accelerate the rapid prototyping and deployment of customer projects.

“Aaeon’s always agile approach and deep understanding of specialised industry requirements make us an ideal partner to bring Qualcomm’s innovations to demanding embedded applications,” said Howard Young, AI architect at Aaeon. “Our ability to work closely with key accounts and provide early access to next-generation technologies aims to accelerate the adoption of Qualcomm in industries requiring highly customised implementations.”

To support developers and system integrators, Aaeon is creating a comprehensive development ecosystem that integrates its Edge Impulse platform for streamlined AI model development and deployment with Dragonwing (www.qualcomm.com/dragonwing) chipsets providing the core processing power. Aaeon will use its expertise in miniaturisation, thermal design, tailored operating system support, custom kernel development and board support package (BSP) services.

This collaboration is said to mark a milestone in bringing edge AI computing capabilities to industries that traditionally require specialised technology and dedicated support. Both Aaeon and Qualcomm (www.qualcomm.com) say they are committed to providing long-term support and early access to technologies for these critical industries, empowering them with the latest IoT.

Established in 1992 in Taiwan, Aaeon (www.aaeon.com) designs and manufactures industrial IoT and AI edge products. It provides computing platforms including industrial motherboards and systems, rugged tablets, embedded AI edge systems, uCPE network appliances, and LoRaWan and WWAN technology.
