Seattle-based Soracom has signed an agreement with Japanese car and motorbike maker Suzuki to pursue IoT applications in the field of mobility services.

Suzuki offers products in multiple mobility categories including cars, motorcycles and outboard motors.

The global automotive industry is changing rapidly, accelerated by broad progress in electrification and automation and by widespread consumer adoption of connected-car or telematics-based capabilities. Automotive manufacturers now have the opportunity to apply recent advances in hardware, software and connectivity to create services and deliver more levels of comfort, convenience and safety.

Together, Soracom and Suzuki will explore opportunities to collaborate in applying IoT technologies to develop offerings centred on mobility services. Potential focus areas include: electric vehicles (EVs) designed for the global market, modular base units, and technologies and services designed to support carbon neutrality.

Both companies will continue to work towards developing mobility services that can provide the infrastructure for business and life in a sustainable society.

Soracom (www.soracom.io) is a technology partner to more than 20,000 start-ups, SMBs and enterprises, connecting more than six million IoT devices globally.

Suzuki Motor (www.globalsuzuki.com) is one of Japan’s leading car makers and a global motorcycle manufacturer. The company’s non-vehicle products include outboard motors for boats and motorised wheelchairs. It builds its line on its own and through numerous subsidiaries and joint ventures outside Japan. Suzuki was established in 1920 and has headquarters in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka.
