California-based Populus is helping the city of Munich manage bikes, e-scooters and other shared mobility services through access to better data.
Populus specialises in transportation and mobility services. It is working with Rupprecht Consult to support Munich’s Mobility Strategy 2035 by enhancing the city’s management of its shared mobility programme.
The city has long pursued the vision of a car-light city through numerous council resolutions and plans. The Mobility Strategy 2035 identifies shared mobility as a critical component for achieving these urban goals. To realise this vision, Munich recognises the need for a robust system to monitor progress and address potential difficulties in shared mobility.
The partnership will focus on developing a scientifically grounded indicator system to monitor and assess the development of shared mobility in Munich. This is powered by the Populus Mobility Manager platform and a selection of tooling. This will help the city make fact-based decisions, optimising the efficiency of public funds and ensuring continuous improvement in the shared mobility sector.
Under the agreement, Populus will provide its Mobility Manager (www.populus.ai/products/mobility-manager) platform to enhance data collection and analysis. Rupprecht Consult (www.rupprecht-consult.eu) will assist in refining the existing draft of the indicator system, ensuring it meets scientific criteria and is operationalised effectively.
The collaboration will help Munich achieve several objectives:
- Overall system: Manage and promote area-efficient and non-discriminatory shared mobility services.
- Integration: Ensure all shared mobility services are digitally integrated for quick and convenient access.
- Priority: Prioritise shared mobility services over private cars on the roads.
- Efficiency and transparency: Enhance the profitability and transparency of shared mobility.
- Climate protection and sustainability: Contribute to the city’s climate neutrality goals, aiming for climate-neutral and low-emission shared mobility by 2035.
- Service quality: Ensure the availability of reliable shared mobility services across the city.
“At Populus, we are committed to helping cities navigate the complexities of modern transportation,” said Regina Clewlow CEO of Populus. “Our collaboration with Munich aligns perfectly with our mission to support sustainable urban mobility. We are thrilled to contribute our expertise and technology to help Munich achieve its long-term goals.”
