New York-based public transport software company Optibus has acquired Spanish transportation technology firm Datik.
The move will see Datik collaborate with Optibus’ R&D and product teams on the development and launch of B2B and B2G SaaS products in the fields of passenger information, control and monitoring, safety, and operations.
The acquisition reinforces Optibus’ commitment to innovating public transportation through technological research, partnerships and acquisitions, and advances the company’s mission to offer an all-in-one digital operating system.
Real-time visibility into traffic conditions, service disruptions, safety incidents and more help public transportation providers respond immediately to problems and mitigate them as they arise. The result is a smoother passenger experience, better work conditions for drivers, and seamless, data-driven workflows for planners and schedulers.
Headquartered in San Sebastian, Spain, Datik (www.datik.es) has worked with more than 100 transportation companies, primarily in Europe and Mexico, to ensure driver and passenger safety and help operators meet and surpass service agreements with public authorities and agencies. Its predictive, real-time technology prevents thousands of vehicle accidents, enhances service frequency, accessibility and on-time performance, and reduces passenger wait times and service disruptions.
Integrating Datik’s data sets into Optibus’ software as a real-time intelligence layer enhances the capability of its artificial intelligence (AI) to predict operational and service outcomes for operators and agencies.
“Optibus is committed to supporting the public transportation market with the most sophisticated tools and expertise available,” said Amos Haggiag, Optibus CEO. “With this acquisition, operators and agencies will have better access to advanced reactionary capabilities, enabling them to plan better services for passengers and improve the driver work experience.”
Inigo Odriozola, general manager of Datik, added: “We are thrilled to join forces with Optibus in a move that is strategic for our growth and that will produce exciting product synergies around data, optimisation and cloud computing. Our combined expertise will break new ground on real-time insights, reinvent operatorial agility, and enhance the driver and passenger experience. Together with Optibus, we look forward to pushing the envelope on transportation technology while maintaining our commitment to the local economy and staying true to the values that have defined Datik.”
Optibus (optibus.com) says it will continue to maintain partnerships across the transportation technology sector in pursuit of an open and collaborative ecosystem of innovation.
