Hyundai Mobis has developed an automotive 5G communications module that promises ultra-low latency and ultra-high data speeds. The company, part of the Hyundai Motor Group, plans to integrate its new 5G module with V2X technologies in order to develop a full product range aimed at the global autonomous and connected car market.

The company says it is set to create differentiated products by combining existing autonomous vehicle sensors and in-vehicle communications and infotainment with 5G connectivity and V2X that will set them apart from the competition.

Hyundai Mobis’s new 5G communication module combines a communication chip, memory, an RF circuit, and GPS, with the company intending to use this technology in the telematics service for 5G connected vehicles.

Hyundai Mobis intends to reach the global audience with an integrated solution based on the V2X communication technology and its newly developed 5G communication technology.

The solution features a broad range of transport applications for enhanced safety and convenience for drivers: sensor-data sharing between vehicles, automatic deceleration in school zones, and vehicle control in emergencies.

Joon-bae Choi, the head of the Connectivity & Sound Sector at Hyundai Mobis, said, “We will strive to develop differentiated mobility technology that merges the integrated 5G V2X technology with the existing autonomous vehicle sensors and our IVI technology, which gives us a competitive advantage over rivals.”
