Baltimore will be one of the first cities to launch the LimeBike, Lime’s latest e-bike model for riders who may have difficulty pedalling for long periods, following a pilot in select cities around the world in 2024.
The news comes as California-based Lime plans to launch more than 10,000 LimeGlider and LimeBike vehicles in nearly a dozen cities across Europe and North America over the coming months. Over the next few weeks, Lime will deploy LimeBikes in Baltimore up to a fleet of 200 throughout the city.
“The arrival of Lime’s new LimeBike marks another step forward for sustainable transportation in Baltimore, and we are proud they chose our city for its debut,” said Baltimore mayor Brandon Scott (mayor.baltimorecity.gov). “With over 2.1 million trips taken on dockless vehicles in the last 12 months, proving that micromobility is an integral part of our transportation infrastructure, we are confident that this new model will increase ridership and use of sustainable transportation in the city.”
With the launch of LimeBike in Baltimore, Lime aims to expand reliable, inclusive and sustainable transportation for residents and visitors. Lime selected Baltimore to be one of the first cities in the country to launch the LimeBike thanks to the city’s continued investments in infrastructure, including protected bike lanes, designated parking and safer streets.
“Making dockless vehicles convenient and accessible to all Baltimore residents is a top priority of our shared mobility programme,” said Baltimore City Department of Transportation (transportation.baltimorecity.gov) director Veronica McBeth. “Since many residents prefer seated options, we commend Lime for dramatically increasing the number of e-bikes available in our city and for choosing Baltimore to debut their new LimeBike, designed to make micromobility more accessible for women, older riders and commuters.”
The LimeBike is designed for riders who may have difficulty pedalling for extended periods, as well as those looking to replace car trips with a more comfortable, two-wheeled option. With a citywide rollout, LimeBikes will support longer trips and expand access to car-free mobility. This launch is part of Lime’s broader investment in Baltimore for 2025, including fleet growth, new technology and operational improvements focused on safety, cleanliness and an enhanced rider experience.
“Baltimore is already a leading micromobility city in North America,” said Erika Duthely, director of government relations at Lime. “We see even greater potential to expand access through our thoughtful investments in infrastructure and inclusive vehicle design. With the launch of LimeBike, we’re focused on making micromobility more accessible for a broader range of riders in Baltimore, especially women and older adults, while helping to close transit gaps across the city. We’re grateful to the city for its embrace of sustainable transportation and we look forward to continuing to deepen the partnership we have built together over the years, helping Baltimore residents get where they need to go safely, equitably and courteously.”
Lime riders have taken over 3.7 million rides in Baltimore since launching in 2017, covering more than eight million kilometres. With an average of over 65% of all shared e-mobility trips in Baltimore taken on Lime vehicles this year, the demand for micromobility continues to surge in the city. So far in 2025, Baltimore riders have taken 428,008 e-scooter trips and 78,889 e-bike trips. In particular, e-bike usage has nearly doubled since 2024. By deploying LimeBikes as a new mobility option that is more accessible for women and older riders, Lime hopes to meet the growing demand for bikes in Baltimore and continue to invest in the programme.
“During our initial pilots last year, it was clear that the LimeBike earned the love of our riders, with people returning to them frequently for local travel,” said Joe Kraus, president of Lime (www.li.me). “We’re so excited to take our next step with these vehicles and bring them to more cities this spring. The LimeBike makes strides in offering a convenient and inclusive experience to a wider number of riders, while sacrificing nothing in the joy all Lime vehicles inspire.”
