Japanese mobility technology firm Denso is working with AT&T to improve road safety.

Denso’s American affiliate and AT&T want to help deliver to cities and the automotive industry a customisable portfolio of services and AT&T-certified hardware and software to enable safer and more efficient driving experience for the traveling public.

Today’s ITS applications require continuous vehicle connectivity and an end-to-end national delivery platform for optimal driver and public safety. The AT&T network provides nationwide cellular coverage and a cloud-based intelligent transportation platform, while 5.9GHz C-V2X supports localised safety critical applications.

The Mobiq (mobiq.io) V2X on-board unit supports the hybrid communication and interoperability of services using embedded cellular and 5.9GHz modems necessary for future transportation.

AT&T is trialling technologies, services and intelligent transportation that can provide a national transportation platform and a portfolio of services to support safe movement of vehicles across the country while enabling localised services and deep integration into the cities’ infrastructure supporting safety and public transportation services.

“Mobiq stands for mobility, intelligence and quality,” said Hiroshi Yanone, director of smart mobility at Denso. “We are excited to collaborate with AT&T and deliver these game-changing devices that protect and enhance the movement of people, vehicles and goods on the road.”

Usman Zafar, associate vice president at AT&T (about.att.com), added: “Intelligent transportation is important to AT&T because it utilises the company’s core strengths in connectivity, data and network innovation to transform how people and goods move. Our advanced transportation technologies and services support safer, smarter and more sustainable transportation systems, while creating strategic business opportunities in the ecosystem.”
