The French Government has announced 90 projects combined with €1.1 billion of funding to develop new agrifood production and technologies for agriculture.
The Government is employing money allocated through the France 2030 programme, an initiative to modernise French industry and society.
The French Government has also confirmed the upcoming launch of the “Agri-Food Industries” fund . This was originally announced at the Paris Agricultural Show in 2023. It aims to create a new structuring fund for the sector, with a target size of €500 million. The Government will contribute €200 million. A private fund will be appointed shortly to manage the fund.
As part of France 2030, the relaunch of the “Agrifood Resilience and Capacities 2030” call for projects will also extend French efforts to support reindustrialisation of industrial links in the agrifood value chain to promote healthy, sustainable, and traceable food. Focused on both upstream and downstream agricultural industries, the programme will seek to promote industrial players whose industrial sites contribute to strengthening the resilience of food chains and the sector’s ecological transition.
It targets three themes: support for industrial capacities for essential agricultural inputs and critical supplements for animal feed, support for the reindustrialisation of strategic agrifood links for food sovereignty, and support for collective approaches to the transition and resilience of agricultural and agrifood sectors.
Eric Lombard, Minister of the Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty said: “As the leading industrial sector with 450,000 jobs, the agri-food industry must remain a pillar of our sovereignty. Through these announcements, my fellow ministers and I are supporting a dynamic network of businesses so that they become more competitive and resilient in the face of climate change and international competition.”
Annie Genevard, Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty said: “Strengthening our country’s food sovereignty requires unwavering support for the agri-food industries. Thanks to initiatives such as the “Agri-Food Industries” fund and the relaunch of the “Agri-Food Resilience and Capacities 2030” call for projects, we are doing everything we can to guarantee the future of our sectors, while supporting their environmental transition and addressing the challenges of competitiveness and innovation. “
Marc Ferracci, Minister of Industry and Energy said: “Strengthening our food sovereignty is imperative: industry contributes to this alongside agriculture, both upstream and downstream. We are deploying transformative action across the entire sector, from agricultural inputs to agri-food processing, to support this industry in facing the challenges of tomorrow.”
