At the end of March, Siemens Healthineers announced that their new CIARTIC Move self-driving mobile C-arm has received clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This technology aims to bring relief to overworked operating room teams. It does this by automating and accelerating intraoperative imaging workflows.

The CIARTIC Move can help address challenges due to staff shortages or overloaded teams in the operating room as traditional C-arms may need to be repositioned frequently throughout an operation. Siemens’ CIARTIC Move can be used across a host of needs, including orthopedic, trauma, spine surgery, thoracic, vascular, cardiovascular, and general surgery; it can even be used to assist with urology interventional pulmonology needs, too.

And one of the coolest things about CIARTIC Move is that it can be moved via wireless controls due to its unique sensing technologies, protecting against collisions by stopping all motorized movements if an obstacle is detected.

Considering that the time needed for surgery varies greatly, depending on the surgery type and if complications arise, overburdened surgical teams can benefit from what CIARTIC Move can offer. This allows for improved patient care and gives the surgical teams in the operating rooms more support and produces better health outcomes.
