Event Detail

Configuring IoT – Business Choices

Connecting devices in the field is always a business decision and the selection criteria in sourcing IoT solutions are becoming increasingly clear. This conference is about configuring appropriate technology for your own applications, whether they’re in manufacturing, services, grid, or supply chain. The conference will feature keynote presentations, followed by shorter, rapid-fire presentations and moderated panel discussions. All presentations will feature use-cases that delve into user criteria and ROI in key areas of edge, connectivity, or platform for IoT.

Keynote: Creating the Business Case for Developing IoT Programs

Discussion Panel: Edge-Compute Power – Thicker vs. Thinner

Loading up computing power at the network’s edge can deliver AI/ML while reducing latency and network dependency. However, mass-sensorization – the concept of deploying sensors everywhere, or “massive IoT” – can require the opposite approach for sensors directly attached to the network with little or no edge intelligence. What are the business implications of these choices, in terms of performance, cost, and capabilities?

Keynote: Ownership Matters. Navigating the Efficiency Frontier in 5G IIoT Projects

Discussion Panel: Private vs Public Networks, Cloud

Network operators can set up private networks for enterprise customers, as can cloud providers setting private or public SaaS. Market-centric clouds and networks are also beginning to emerge catering to special industry requirements, such as for healthcare and energy utilities. Business parameters that can be affected include cost, latency, privacy, and control. What are the business implications of these choices, in terms of cost and performance?

Keynote: IoT Connectivity – Licensed vs. Unlicensed Technologies – Use Cases and Future Proof-ness

Discussion Panel: IoT Connectivity – Licensed vs. Unlicensed

Licensed cellular networks are available from 5G down to NB-IoT and LTE-M, offering alternatives from the highest possible bandwidth to lower data plans. At the same time, LoRa-WAN and other unlicensed options are providing low-power alternatives and the next generation of satellite alternatives cannot be ignored. All of these connectivity options offer different OpEx, coverage, throughput, flexibility, complexity, and service levels.

Keynote: Advantages of Universal Hardware-Agnostic IoT Solutions During Crises

Kseniya will elaborate on agility and flexibility, which come on stage when you go universal when it comes to hardware usage in IoT projects. In particular, Kseniya will cover the following points:

  • Struggles while choosing a right business strategy regarding hardware choice: specialization vs. versatility
  • Advantages and disadvantages of both strategies
  • The ways versatility allows businesses to survive during a crisis
  • How does Gurtam do it? Real-life examples from the Wialon partner community

The talk will be useful not only for companies who deploy IoT projects but also for their clients to better understand the strategies and decisions behind ways of making their businesses more effective with IoT.

Discussion Panel: Design Impacts Power Consumption at the Edge

IoT edge design is getting more complex given the use of multi radio and multi band in the majority ofthe devices. However, the number of technologies that can help to optimize IoT edge power consumption is proliferating. Low-power connectivity (LoRa, NB-IoT, etc.), new battery technology, full system approaches of radio and antenna design, and even new concepts like energy harvesting are all contributing to reduce the power needed for remote devices, but there are trade-offs. This session will cover the implications of optimal design for cost and performance.
