Asset-tracking specialist ID Systems says it has won a contract valued at approximately $400,000 to deploy its vehicle management system (VMS) for a leading global manufacturer of machinery and heavy equipment.

The contract represents a new customer although ID Systems (Woodcliff Lake, NJ, USA) did not disclose its identity.

The company also said that the order was generated by one of its channel partners.

“The addition of this multinational manufacturer to ID Systems’ customer base gives our wireless technology unprecedented penetration with the world’s most prominent heavy equipment makers,” said Kenneth Ehrman, ID Systems’ chairman and chief executive.

“We view this as an implicit endorsement of the high value that our VMS solutions provide in manufacturing operations,” he added. “We look forward to the opportunity to expand this customer’s deployment of our technology across its enterprise, as we have expanded with many other customers with global supply chains.”

ID Systems now claims to have deployed its VMS technology in more than 20 countries around the world.

It claims the VMS can help to improve workplace safety and security by restricting vehicle access to trained and authorized operators, providing electronic vehicle inspection checklists and sensing vehicle impacts.

It can also help to reduce fleet maintenance costs by automatically uploading data and reporting vehicle problems automatically.

Moreover, maintenance can be scheduled on the basis of actual usage rather than according to the calendar.

Perhaps above all, VMS should bolster supply chain productivity by streamlining material handling work flow and providing metrics on equipment usage.
