Vehicle leasing company Northgate Flexible Renting is hoping to cut fleet-running costs for customers in Spain through a new tie-up with TomTom Telematics.

Using “track and trace” technology developed by TomTom (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Northgate’s Spanish division is to launch a service branded NorthgateData that is intended to help fleet organizations boost productivity and cut down on fuel and maintenance costs.

“By partnering with TomTom, the market leader in fleet management systems, we can now offer our customers added value by reducing the total cost of fleet ownership,” said Fernando Cogollos, the managing director of Northgate Flexible Renting (Darlington, UK).

Northgate says the NorthgateData service will allow customers to locate vehicles in real-time, assign the nearest vehicles for jobs and access mileage and historic vehicle-usage reports.

The ultimate aim is to ensure customers can plan better routers and optimize drivers’ working time.

“This partnership extends our market reach helping more businesses than ever before benefit from TomTom’s leading fleet management solutions,” said Thomas Schmidt, the managing director of TomTom Telematics.

The partnership will provide a further boost to TomTom Telematics, which recently flagged 2% growth in revenues for the first quarter of the year, to €205 million ($281 million), and swung to a net profit of €8 million from a loss of €2 million in the year-earlier quarter.

The company also recently signed an agreement to acquire DAMS Tracking, a fleet-management business in France, and expects the deal to close this month.

The transaction will add some 27,000 subscriptions to TomTom’s installed base.
