Novatel Wireless has partnered with fleet-management specialist Chipin on the rollout of new usage-based insurance (UBI) services in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

Under the tie-up, Novatel (San Diego, CA, USA) will supply its MT 3060 mobile tracking device and N4A device management platform to support Chipin’s range of services.

Chipin says its UBI programs offer drivers savings of as much as 25% and are designed to encourage safer driving.

Novatel says the MT 3060 device can be installed by drivers in a matter of minutes and will provide “a wealth of diagnostic, maintenance and driving performance information”.

It can be used to detect monitor vehicle parameters such as speed, location and braking – all of which can be used to tailor UBI offers to particular drivers.

The N4A platform, meanwhile, is intended to support the management and configuration of M2M devices.

“We want to show that customers will benefit from UBI with more safety, less accidents and fair dynamic pricing,” said Hans Gerritsen, the chief executive of Chipin. “In cooperation with Novatel Wireless and its advanced devices and technologies, we will deliver and expand this proposition to the Benelux market."

Novatel said it believed the use of its technology would allow Chipin to support “full featured UBI programs in the Benelux region.”
