Westbase Technology is to begin distributing Vodafone’s MachineLink 3G router, which has been designed for use across a number of vertical markets globally.

In a statement the company said the router would provide M2M connectivity in areas covered by 2G and 3G cellular networks, and could be “mass deployed” to connect remote assets, premises, equipment and vehicles using Vodafone’s (Newbury, UK) network or infrastructure available from Vodafone partners.

The router forms part of the operator’s M2M product portfolio and combines a monitoring platform with tariffs and support from Vodafone and Westbase (Caldicot, UK).

Westbase claims the device will address the need for cost-effective and reliable remote monitoring by utility companies and organizations in the areas of industrial automation, asset management, healthcare, point of payment, vending and digital signage.

“The Vodafone MachineLink 3G opens the doors for businesses looking to deploy M2M applications,” said Sacha Kakad, the managing director of Westbase. “As a completely managed connectivity solution bringing together the router, the platform and dedicated support, customers have access to a competitively priced solution that the marketplace has been crying out for.”

The router includes built-in Ethernet for plug-and-play connectivity, flexible power options, high-performance internal antennae and an optional external antenna connector.

Westbase also says it can e installed in virtually any M2M deployment thanks to its built-in mounting versatility.

It also comes with an open-management Linux software development kit allowing customers to develop their own customized applications.
